Serving from the Heart

Welcome to Pineappleland! At all of our Playa Bowls’ locations, we serve from the heart, with the intention to provide a motivational safe haven for our local communities looking to encourage holistic wellness lifestyles. We put our bodies through a lot daily, not to mention everyday stressors that can leave us feeling like we’re in the impact zone.

Summer is the perfect time to join the Playa Bowls party wave to get your body balanced for fun days under the sun. Here are some ingredients featured in our deliciously rad recipes that will leave you hanging ten!

Honey: Honey is a must in most bowl recipes and has so many health benefits! Raw, unpasteurized honey alone provides our body with calcium, magnesium, manganese, niacin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, and zinc. It also benefits the digestive tract, brain, or sore throat (Clark, 2022). Honey also protects our cells from damage and prevents premature aging, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease (Shoemaker MS, RDN, LD, 2021).

Coconut: We’re crazy about coconut and its many holistic benefits, which is why it’s a staple in many of our recipes. Coconut will help you feel at your peak both physically and mentally. Coconut offers a high fiber content, controls diabetes by improving insulin secretion, and boosts immunity and energy (Choudhary, 2022), leaving you feeling alive and ready to complete that next work task or catch that next wave!

Kale: You’ll feel swell with our satisfying kale-based bowl blends that are super nutritious! We can’t think of a better all-around healthy ingredient like Kale. Just one cup…or Playa Bowl of kale base feeds your body essential vitamins, including magnesium, potassium, copper, calcium, and manganese (Gunnars, BSc, 2018). Not to mention the body parts, kale helps to support your heart, bones, digestive system, eyes, skin, and hair (Ware, RDN, L.D., 2020)!

Goji Berries: We love a brightly colored bowl that reminds us of watching summer sunsets from our boards, and that’s exactly what Goji berry pitaya bowls do! What even is a Goji berry? It’s a berry native to Asia and has been used medicinally for centuries (Barhum, 2020). Sun-kissed skin can quickly lead to a burn, so protecting your skin is essential. Goji berries promote overall skin health, reduce inflammation, aid in damage from the sun, and help us age beautifully! Feeling wiped out? Goji berries help us to get a better night’s sleep and improve feelings of anxiety and depression (Barhum, 2020).

Almonds: We’re feeling amped on almonds’ benefits from raw form to butter. Almonds are loaded with antioxidants, vitamin E, and magnesium and are the perfect topping for a quick Playa Bowl in between surf sessions. Overall, almonds contribute to lowering our cholesterol, blood pressure levels, and hunger cravings (Leech, MS, 2018).

Bee Pollen: Our Tide bowl is totally tubular with the addition of bee pollen, an excellent

ingredient for holistic healing. Bee pollen often comes as small crunchy pellets and is ready to relieve inflammation, offers several antioxidants, strengthens the immune system, and reduces stress (Raman, MS, RD, 2018).

Hemp Seeds: Pack on the protein with these nutrient-rich seeds that originate from the cannabis plant and are safe to consume. Did you know? Our body needs fatty acids to survive, but our bodies can’t actually produce them, so we receive them through food intake (Crichton-Stuart, 2018). Hemp seeds are a great source of omega-3 and contain several vitamins, including vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. The holistic benefits offered by hemp seeds may protect us in the long term from various illnesses, including heart disease, arthritis, and type 2 diabetes (Chrichton-Stuart, 2018).

Blueberries: A key ingredient in a majority of our bowls and the sweetest yet healthiest treat! If there was extra whitewash on the surf or today’s just not your day, blueberries are a great way to kickstart rest and relaxation (Leech, MS, 2018). Strenuous activity and exercise can cause muscle fatigue and damage we can’t see on a molecular level, and blueberries are known to relieve soreness. They may also benefit vital organs, including the heart and the brain, so you can’t go wrong with these sweet berries! (Leech, MS, 2018).

Granola: What would we do without our hardy and trusty granola? It’s a base ingredient at Playa Bowls! Granola will literally fill you up with fiber keeping you feeling full and satisfied throughout the day, whatever life throws at you (Mandl BSc, Msc, APD, 2019). Bodies and granola go together like surfboards and the ocean; it’s a match made in Pineappleland! General holistic benefits include improved blood pressure and gut health, reduced cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and amazing antioxidants (Mandl BSc, Msc, APD, 2019).
